Description: Zygosporae flavae vel rufobrunneae, cum tunica hypharum intertextarum 2.5-12.5 μm diam, adpressarum ad spora, usque ad 15 μm crassa. Zygosporae singulae vel aggregatae in solo, vel on radicibus. Gametangia tenuiter tunicata, ephemera, ad apices coeuntia, zygosporam super juncturam producentia. Zygosporae globosae, subglobosae, vel obovoideae 110-135 × 110-185 μm (cum tunica hypharum). Tunicae sporarum stratis duobus, separabilibus: exteriore 2 μm crasso, brunneo; interiore ca. 1 μm crasso, membranaceo. Typus: Wu-831020 (TAI). Zygosporocarps borne singly or in aggregates in the soil or on roots, containing a zygosporangium separately. Zygosporangia yellow brown or reddish brown, with a mantle of pale yellow, interwoven hyhae appressed to the sporangiothecium, 2.5-12.5 μm diam. forming layers of hyphae up to 15 μm thick. Gametangia thin-walled and ephemeral, uniting at their tips, with the zygosporagnium forming above the point of union. Zygosporangia globose, subglobose, or obovoid 110-135 × 110-185 μm (including hyphal mantle). Zygosporangium consisting of two walls. Wall 1, a unit wall, 2 m thick, smooth and brown; wall 2, a membranous wall, ca.1 m thick, hyaline. Peridial hyphae and outer spore wall stained pinkish brown and reddish brown respectively in Melzer's reagent. Holotype: Wu-831020 (TAI).

 Specimens:

TAIWAN: Nantou, National Yu-san Park. HOLOTYPE: From the rhizosphere of Pieris taiwanensis Hayata, Wu-831020 (TAI); ISOTYPE: FLAS-F56217. PARATYPE: From the rhizosphere of the same host, Wu-831123 (TAI). From the rhizosphere of Senecio nemorensis L., Wu-831117 (TAI).

Habitat: Hypogeous. Zygospores were isolated from Tatachia Saddle area, in National Yu-shan Park. The zygospores of Peridiospora pieris were isolated together with the spores of Acaulospora sp. (SM-83111701).

Note: Etymology: Latin, tatachia refers to the type locality where the zygosporangia of P. tatachia were first recovered. Zygosporangia of Peridiospora tatachia are similar to those of Endogone lactiflua. Both species produce yellow brown to orange brown zygosporangium of similar size (110-135 × 110-185 μm vs. 71-180 × 94-190 μm). However, the latter produces larger multispored zygosporocarps 1.5-5 μm diam (Gerdemann and Trappe, 1974). Additionally, the zygosporangial walls of P. tatachia are much thinner than those of E. lactiflua ((3 vs. 5-11 μm thick).
