Description: | Basidiocarp resupinate, effuse, separable, 150-300 μm thick in section, membranaceous- subceraceous. Hymenial surface grayish orange, odontioid-hydnoid, extensively cracked; margin paler, rather determinate, slightly filamentose, usually recurved. Aculei separate or fused, subulate, flattened, variable in size, up to ca. 1.5 mm long. Hyphal system dimitic; generative hyphae nodose-septate. Subiculum fairly uniform, composed of medullary layer, with fairly loose texture; generative hyphae colorless, distinct, 2.5-5 μm diam., thin- to thick-walled; skeletal hyphae colorless or yellowish, not branched, 2.5-7 μm diam., thick-walled to almost solid. Subhymenium thickening. Trama with dense texture. Skeletocystidia numerous, apically swollen and encrusted. Basidia 13-17 × 4.7-5.2 μm, 4-sterigmate. Basidiospores smooth, thin-walled, 4-4.5 × 2.7-3.1 μm, IKI–, CB–.

Note: | Maas Geesteranus (1974) placed Steccherinum robustius in synonymy with S. laeticolor (Berk. & Curt.) Banker. However, after examination of the type specimen of the latter species, Eriksson et al. (1984) were convinced that it represents a different taxon. This study temperarily adopts the name S. robustius for the Taiwanese collection, due to the metuloid appearance of the skeletocystidia and ellipsoid shape of the basidiospores indicated by Eriksson et al. (1984) for this species.
