 Description: Basidiocarp resupinate, effuse, adnate, membranaceous, 50-200 μm thick in section (dissepiments excluded). Hymenial surface ivory-colored or cream, poroid; margin paler, thinning or fairly determinate, filamentous-arachnoid. Pores angular for young growth marginal regions, ca 3 per mm, becoming split behind the growth margins and as raduloid; tube layer up to 1 mm deep, dissepiments 60-200 μm thick. Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae nodose-septate. Context homogeneous, composed of medullary layer, with fairly loose texture; hyphae colorless, variously oriented, 2.5-4.5 μm diam., with 0.5-1 μm thick walls. Trama with moderately dense texture. Capitate cystidia distributed in hymenium, colorless, 15-23 × 4-5.3 μm, thin-walled. Basidia suburniform, 12-22 × 4-5.5 μm, 4-sterigmate. Basidiospores subglobose, smooth, thin-walled, guttulate, 4.2-5 × 4-4.3 μm, IKI–, CB–.

 Note: Hyphodontia hallenbergii resembles H. niemelaei among the poroid Hyphodontia with a monomitic hyphal system in having similar cystidia and basidiospores. Pores on hymenial surface of H. niemelaei always remain intact, whereas, those of H. hallenbergii tend to split. Moreover, the spore shape of H. niemelaei is ellipsoid while that of H. hallenbergii is subglobose. Hyphodontia hallenbergii has shorter and wider basidiospores than H. niemelaei. Hyphodontia apacheriensis (Gilb. & Canf.) Hjortstam & Ryvarden also has a monomitic hyphal system, while bearing longer basidiospores (5-6.5 × 4-5.5 μm, cf. Langer (1994)) than H. hallenbergii.
