Description: Growth in glucose-yeast extract-peptone broth: After 3 days at 25°C, the cells are subglobose (3.6-7.4 × 2.3-5.9 μm), single or in pairs. Vegetative reproduction is accomplished by multilateral budding. Sediment is present. Growth on yeast extract-malt extract agar: After 7 days at 25°C, streak cultures are white, butyrous, smooth, flat, glistening and entire. Dalmau plate culture on corn meal agar: On Dalmau plate cultures on corn meal agar after 10 days at 25°C, neither pseudomycelium nor true mycelium is formed under the cover glass. Formation of ascospores: After 10 days at 18 °C on CM agar, YM agar, McClary’s acetate agar, malt extract agar, and V8 agar, ascopores are absent.
