Description: On PDA, growth is rapid, with delicate, white to pink or pale purple, aerial mycelium. Orange to tan sporodochia and dark blue sclerotia are present or absent. Colonies reach 4.5-5.2 cm diameter for 4 days at 24℃. From below the cultures are colorless, pink to dark purple in color. Microconidia formed abundantly only in false heads from mono- or poly-phialides, oval to ellipsoid, 1-celled, 6.3–22.5 × 2.0–3.5 μm. Macroconidia borne from mono- or poly- phialides, falcate, thin-walled, with a foot-shaped basal cell, mostly 3-5 septate, 30.0–60.0 × 2.8– 4.3 μm. Chlamydospores are absent. Gibberella fujikuroi var. subglutinans Edwards is heterothallic and the teleomorph is obtained by pairing compatible monoconidial isolates on Sach’s agar media supporting sterilized rice straw.
