Description: Mycelium limited diffuse; principal hyphae moderately stout and branched, 35-85 μ in diameter at base. Zoosporangia abundant ; fusiform or naviculate, rarely filiform; straight or curved; 150-410 μ long by 15-45 μ in diameter, renewed sympodially, occasionally in baseipetalous succession. Zoospore discharge achlyoid; spore cluster not persistent at exit pore; encysted spores 10-12 μ in diameter. Oogonia abundant; lateral, rarely terminal or intercalary; angular, occasionally spherical or pyriform. 30-80 μ in diameter, predominantly 50-70 μ. Oogonial wall smoth or occasionally with very sparse papillate ornamentations; pitted under point of attachment of antheridial cells, rarely elsewhere as well. Oogonial stalks 0.5-2.5 times the diameter of the oogonium in length, usually 1.5 times; stout; straight, occasionally curved, rarely irregularly. Antheridial branches sparse; monoclinous , occasionally androgynous, infrequently diclinous; simple or sparingly branched. Antheridial cells tubular, simple or branched; laterally appressed or attached by projection; fertilization tubes present, persistent. Oospheres maturing. Oospores eccentric; spherical, rarely ellipsoidal, generally not filling the oogonium;1-24 in number, usually4-7; 22-42 μ in diameter, predominantly 24-27 μ.
