Description: | Growth on YM agar: After 7 days at 25°C, the streak culture is orange, smooth, glistening and convex. The edge is entire. Growth in YM broth: After 3 days at 25°C, cells are globose to ovoidal or elongate, 2-4 × 3-11.5 μm, single and in pair. Reproduction by multilateral budding. Dalmau plate culture on Corn Meal Agar: Pseudomycelium is absent. | |||

Note: | R. graminis appears to be closely related to R. glutinis; Kurtzman and Fell (1991) reported 30% nDNA relateness between the two species. Fell et al. (1992) found that two species differed by one base position in a study of the nucleotide sequence alignment of the partial LSU rRNA region. | |||
