 Description: Basidiocarp resupinate, effuse, adnate, membranaceous, 40-120 μm thick in section. Hymenial surface lilac-gray to brownish gray, smooth, rarely cracked; margin fairly determinate, of a narrow brown immature zone. Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae simple-septate. Subiculum fairly uniform, composed of a basal layer, with compact texture; hyphae brownish, horizonal, usually glued together, 2-4 μm diam., usually thick-walled. Hymenium ± thickening. Hymenial layer with compact texture; hyphae brownish or yellow, mainly vertical, slightly thick-walled. Lamprocystidia numerous, heavily encrusted, conical, yellow or brownish, 15-35 × 6-10 μm (encrustation included), with 1-2.5 μm thick walls. Gloeocystidia colorless, yellow or slightly brown, cylindrical, narrow toward apices or with acute apices, 20-60 × 5-10 μm, thick-walled except apices, ± SA+. Basidia subclavate, usually thick-walled toward bases, 4-sterigmate, 20-30 × 3.5-4.3 μm, 4-sterigmate. Basidiospores suballantoid, smooth, thin-walled, 5-7 × 1.8-2.2 μm, IKI-, CB-.

 Note: This new species is allied to P. malaiensis. Both are fairly common in tropical and subtropical Taiwan, but P. taiwanensis has narrower basidiospores than P. malaiensis.
