Description: Basidiocarpum effusum, membranaceum, 60-150 μm crassum; superficies hymenialis plana. Systema hypharum monomiticum; hyphae efibulatae. Lamprocystidia 30-60 × 5-8 μm. Basidia clavata, 12-20 × 4.5-5.5 μm, 4 sterigmatibus. Basidiosporae subglobosae, laeves, tenuitunicatae, 3.7-4.7 × 2.8-3.2 μm, IKI-, CB-. Basidiocarp resupinate, effuse, adnate, membranaceous, 60-150 μm thick in section. Hymenial surface ivory-colored, slightly darkens in KOH, smooth, not cracked; margin thinning, concolorous or paler, byssoid. Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae simple-septate. Subiculum composed of a basal layer and a medullary layer. Basal layer up to ca. 50 μm thick, with compact texture; medullary layer with loose texture. Subicular hyphae colorless, horizontal and usually glued together in a basal layer, μm vertical towards subhymenium, 2-4.5 μm diam., with 0.4-1.2 μm thick walls. Hymenium thickening, with dense texture; hyphae colorless, thin-walled. Lamprocystidia numerous, immersed or projecting, subulate or conical, colorless, 30-60 × 5-8 μm (without encrustation), with 0.7-2.2 μm thick walls. Basidia clavate, 12-20 × 4.5-5.5 μm, 4-sterigmate. Basidiospores subglobose, smooth, thin-walled, 3.7-4.7 × 2.8-3.2 μm, IKI-, CB-.

Note: This species is comparable to Phanerochaete filamentosa (Berk. & M.A. Curtis) Burds. However, the latter has an ochraceous (Eriksson et al., 1978) or orange-tinted (Burdsall, 1985) hymenial surface which will turn purple in KOH. Lamprocystidia of P. filamentosa are generally longer. Moreover, P. filamentosa has slightly longer and narrower basidiospores.
