Note: This species is distinguished from all other known species of Physalospora (Arx & Müller, 1954; Barr, 1970; Scheuer, 1988) by its verruculose, smaller sized ascospores. It is close to P. kalmiae F. A. Wolf & A. R. Caval. (Barr, 1970) which has somewhat smaller and much narrower ascospores measuring 10-17.5 × 4.5-6.5 μm and to P. vitis-idaeae Rehm (Barr, 1970) which has obovoid, finely roughened, 18-20 × 9-10.5 μm ascospores and smaller, broader and measuring 75-90 × 18-27.5 μm.
