Description: | Stroma conical or discoid, with zone line under epidermis, enclosing perithecia in diatrypoid configuration. Perithecia depressed globose in one row, 316-474 × 434-750 μm, gregarious up to five united in clusters, with fused, erumpent ostioles. Peridium 44-56 μm thick, composed of melanized and prosenchymatous cells outside and hyaline and compressed cells toward the interior. Paraphyses filiform, septate, hyaline and numerous. Asci unitunicate, basal and peripheral, 57-66 × 4 μm from apex of ascus to the lowest ascospore in ascus, cylindrical, with an amyloid apical ring, long stalked, 8-spored. Ascospores 7-10 × 3-4 μm, narrowly ellipsoid, ends rounded, uniseriate inside ascus, brown to dark brown, aseptate, with a straight germ slit equal to spore length on one side. | |||
