Description: | Ascomata 270-475 μm wide, 250-500 μm high, superficial, brown, subglobose, single to sometimes aggregated, associated with repent, spreading network of brown hyphae; ostiole apical, nonpapillate with a flattened apex. Peridium 50-80 μm wide, composed of two distinct layers: the outer layer of brown pseudoparenchymatous cells forming a textura angularis; inner layer comprising hyaline, more or less flattened, elongated pseudoparenchymatous cells. Periphyses up to 5 μm wide, hyaline, aseptate, distinct from paraphyses. Setae numerous, hyphal, flexuous, brown, septate, unbranched, single to fasciculate, 180-280 μm long and up to 8 μm wide formed from the outer cells of the peridium. Paraphyses 3-6 μm wide, hyaline, filamentous, slightly tapering towards the apex, deliquescing and disappearing when asci mature. Asci 150-180 × 10-13 μm, cylindrical, unitunicate, thin-walled, 8-spored, short-stalked, with an amyloid apical ring. Ascospores 18-23 × 5.5-8.o μm, uniseriate inside the ascus, ellipsoidal, hyaline, aseptate, guttulate. A. Ceratosporium anamorph is associated with the teleomrph. Conidia arising directly from brown, repent hyphae, triradiately branched, brown, 9-14-septate with each arm measuring 100-140 μm long and 17-20 μm wide at the base, mostly longer than those reported for I. phyllophila (Mouton) Samels, E. Müll. & Petrini and I. ripogoni Samuels, E. Müll. & Petrini (1987). | |||
