Description: | Ascostroma covering the infected scale insect, pulvinate, byssoid, ca. 3.3 mm in diam., 1.0 mm thick, pale orange, greyish orange to brownish orange and greyish brown (5A-E3), becoming yellowish brown (5E4) in age, margin surrounded by membranous hypothallus, 0.7 mm in diam. Ascocarps solitary or aggregated in small groups, deeply embedded in the ascostroma, subglobose to ovoid, 180-256 μm tall, 120-160 μm wide, outer wall covered with hyaline, flexuous hyphal hairs, 3.2-5.6 μm wide, thick-walled, sparsely septate, ascocarp wall 20-36 μm thick. Asci bitunicate, 8-spored, long-clavate to cylindrical, 80-106 × 6.4-10.0 μm, with a 1.3 μm thick perforated refractive cap. Ascospores long-clavate, parallel to spirally twisted in asci, hyaline, 23.0-46.8 × 4.0-8.0 μm, apex rounded, tapering to narrow rounded base, 5-11 septate, forming cuboidal to subcuboidal cells. | |||
