Description: The perithecia occur in groups, 1-many in swollen tubercles on the leaf, which are convex and slightly rugulose on the upper surface, marked by a black, epidermal clypeus around each ostiole and sometimes confluent over the whole group of perithecia. On the lower surface the leaf is invaginated. Perithecia immersed, more or less globose, with the locules up to 350-625 μm in diam., each partly or completely surrounded by a brown stromatic layer which is occasionally confluent with adjacent ones and thickened around the apex. Wall of stromata variably thick, composed of textura epidermoidea towards the perithecia and becoming textura intricata away from the perithecia. Perithecial wall 34-50 μm thick, composed of several layers of compressed, brown cells. Asci numerous, unitunicate, formed over the lower two-third of the locule, cylindrical, paraphysate, 137-158 × 10-12 μm. Ascospores elliptical, uniseriate, hyaline, smooth, 12-16 × 6-8 μm.
