 Description: Infected scale insects covered with dense, pulvinate, or discoid mycelium mat, 0.7-1.6 mm in diam., 0.4 mm thick, light brown (6D4-6), brown (7E6-8), or reddish brown to dark brown (9F6), margin surrounded by white byssoid subiculum, several mm wide, consisting of closely interwoven, hyaline, septate, smooth hyphae, 2.0-3.2 μm wide. Perithecia produced on the pulvinate mycelium mat or subiculum, scattered or aggregated in a circle, elongate flask-shaped or elongate conoid, tomentose, brownish red to violet brown (10D-F8), 560-720 × 210-320 μm, neck 100-130 μm wide, yellowish brown (5E5-6) to violet brown. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, capitate, up to 240 μm long, 5.2-7.9 μm wide, with perforated refractive cap, 3.2-4.0 μm thick. Ascospores filiform, septate, hyaline, 1.3-2.0 μm wide, breaking into partspores. Partspores cylindrical, truncate, 7.9-14.3 ×1.3-2.0 μm.
