Description: Ascostroma arising singly from the cephalothorax portion or abdomen of formicine ant, capitate, with a long stipe, slender, curved, 40-95 mm long, 0.3-0.4 mm thick, light yellow to greyish yellow (4A-B4), or light orange, greyish orange to orange (5A-B4-6). Stipe consisting of compact longitudinal parallel, or somewhat interwoven aligned hyphae, terminal with an ascogenous head. Fertile head ovoid-subglobose, about 1.7 mm high, 1.0 mm wide, longitudinal irregular rugose, conical when dry, concolorus with the stipe. Perithecia ovoid to narrowly ovoid, 460-580 × 160-310 μm, completely and obliquely embedded in pseudoparenchymatous tissue consisting of parallel or interwoven, septate hyaline hyphae, 40-60 μm wide, perithecial wall 16-28 μm thick. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, capitate, 200-480 × 6.4-9.1 μm, with a thickened perforated refractive cap, flattened hemispherical, 5.6-6.4 μm thick, 7.9-9.5 μm wide. Ascospores filiform, multiseptate, often breaking into one-celled partspores. Partspores barrel-shaped to cylindrical, slightly wider in middle, becoming longer near both ends, 7.9-12.7 × 1.6-2.8 μm, truncate, with frilled ends, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidial state unknown.
