 Description: Apothecia minute, 0.2-0.8 mm diam., growing singly or gregariously on dead petioles or rachis of fern, cup-shaped, stipitate, densely clothed with yellowish, buff, or white hairs bearing amber colored particles. Disc yellow, usually covered by cup margin in dry specimens. Stipe 0.2-0.5 mm long, also densely covered with hairs. Hairs to 64 × 1.9-2.5 mm, septate, pale buff-yellow with transmitted light, thin-walled, roughened with tightly adhering granules. Ectal and medullary excipulum are similar to that of L. flavidulum. Asci (37-)48-54 × 4.4-5.4 mm, cylindrical, with a narrowed base, J+. Ascospores (9-)12-14(-16.0) × 1.8-2.0 mm, fusiform, both ends narrowed to sharp points, nonseptate but often containing a row of guttules. Paraphyses lanceolate, with blunt apex, 1.3-2.2 mm, at the widest part, exceeding the asci by up to 10 mm in the hymenium.

 Note: This species is common in Taiwan on the above mentioned hosts and perhaps other ferns. Lachnum pteridophyllum is indistinguishable from L. flavidulum macroscopically but is separated from the latter by its longer, bipolar, fusiform spores with pointed apices.
