Description: Ascomata 240-327 μm in diameter, solitary or gregarious, globose to subglobose, superficial on hard surfaces or immersed in soft substrata; sometimes seated with subicula on grains of sand, ostiolate, papillate, carbonaceous, black with a tuberculate surface. Necks short, cylindrical or conical, laterally, or near the basal subiculum and pointing downward. Pseudoparenchyma of hyaline, thin-walled, polygonal or rounded cells filling the venter of young ascomata, deliquescent, cell walls with pit-like thickenings. Asci 100-112 × 28-38 μm, eight-spored, cylindrical to fusiform, short pedunculate, without apical apparatuse, thin-walled, unitunicate, deliquescing early. Ascospores 50-120 × 6-12 μm (excluding apical appendages), fusiform slightly curved, 7-septate (rarely 9- to 13-septate), slightly constricted at the septa, hyaline. Primary polar appendages reduced, secondary appendages developing by fragmentation of the exosporium; secondary polar appendages sheet-like, attached to the apex of the ascospores, 10-22 μm, and equatorial appendages peritrichous, flexible, sheet-like, 18-40 × 1-2 μm.
