 Description: Ascomata 125-252 μm in diameter, solitary or gregarious, globose to subglobose, superficial, often seated with subicula on sand grains or other hard surfaces, ostiolate, papillate, carbonaceous, metallic black. Necks conical to subcylindrical, laterally, or near the basal subiculum and pointing downward. Pseudoparenchyma of hyaline, thin-walled, polygonal or rounded cells filling the venter of young ascomata, deliquescent, cell walls with pit-like thickenings. Asci eight-spored, fusiform or subclavate, unitunicate, thin-walled, deliquescing early. Ascospores 18-51 × 7-17 μm (excluding apical appendages), fusiform or sub-ellipsoidal, one-septate, constricted at the septum, hyaline. Appendages of two types (a) primary, polar spine appendage, 9-14 × 1-1.5 μm at both ends, and (b) secondary, developing by fragmentation of the exosporium; at both ends with fibrous and peritrichous appendages attached to polar spines and around the septum with a sheet-like, flexible, equatorial appendages, 16-20 μm long.
