Description: CYA, 25°C, 7 days: colony diameters 11-16 mm, dense, raised, floccose; mycelium white to reddish grey (10-11B2); conidiogenesis absent; exudates lacking; soluble pigment pale greyish, pale red to reddish brown (8C-D5, 9D6); reverese reddish white, reddish orange, greyish red to reddish brown or violet brown (7A2-6, 7B4-6, 8B-D4-6, 10-11E7-8). MEA, 25°C, 7 days: colony diameters 15-20 mm, dense, floccose, villose or funiculose, margin low, fibrillose; mycelium white to yellowish white (3-4A2); gymnothecia discrete, white; exudates slime, clear to pale yellow (1A2-3); soluble pigment pale greyish red (10A3, 10C4); reverse pastel (light) yellow, yellow or light orange, dark orange to reddish orange (3A4-6, 5A-B6-7, 6AA4-8, 6B7-9, 7AB6). G25N, 25°C, 7 days: no growth. CYA, 5°C, 7 days: no growth. CYA, 37°C, 7 days: no growth. Gymnothecia soft, abundant on MEA, usually discrete, rarely confluent, globose, subglobose, or ellipsoidal, pastel yellow or yellow (3A4-6), 280.0-450.0 × 270.0-410.0 μm, maturing in 2 months with peridium composed of tightly interwoven hyphae and pseudopar-enchymatous tissue by somewhat differentiated hyphae, ascomatal initials consisting of swollen, contorted cells initiating from the verrucose hyphae, profusely branching and developing into ascogenous hyphae; asci evanescent, globose, subglobose, hyaline, in short chains, 8.5-10.8 × 7.3-9.2 μm; ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, 3.3-6.7 × 2.8-4.2 μm, very roughened to spinose, usually with one equatorial flange, less often with irregular, discon-tinuous, X-, Y-, spiral, or cross-shaped flanges. Conidiophores and conidia: conidiophores on MEA borne from funicules or aerial hyphae; stipes septate, finely roughened to roughened, rarely smooth, 35.0-180.0 × 2.6-4.2 μm; penicilli monoverticillate, biverticillate or asymmetrical, irregular; metulae appressed, in verticils of 2-5, finely roughened to roughened, occasionally smooth, 8.3-27.4(54) × 2.1-3.3 μm; phialides in verticils of 3-7 per stipes, or 2-5 per metulae; acerose, rarely ampulliform, smooth to finely roughened, 6-7-22.0 × 2.1-3.0 μm, often with long, gradually tapering collula, up to 7.1 mm in length; conidia ellipsoidal, less often subglobose or pyriform, hyaline, smooth walled, 2.7-5.0 × 1.7-3.2 μm, borne in tangled, disordered chains.
