Description: CYA, 25°C, 7 days: colony diameters 27-39 mm, plane, sulcate, dense, velutinous to somewhat floccose, margin irregular; mycelium white to reddish grey (12B-C2-3); conidiogenesis sparse, greyish yellow to yellow (2-3B4-8); exudate absent; soluble pigment pale brownish red (9C6-8); reverse brown, greyish red to violet brown (10-11D-F3-4). MEA, 25°C, 7 days: colony diameters 35-45 mm, plane to sulcate, velutinous, floccose or granular, enveloping incipient gymnothecia, margin irregular; conidiogenesis sparse, greyish yellow to yellow or orange yellow (3-4B4-8); exudate absent; soluble pigment pale brownish red (8C-D6-8); reverse greyish red to violet brown or dark ruby (10D-F3-5, 11-12E-F4-6). G25N, 25°C, 7 days: colonies up to 6 mm diameter. CYA, 5°C, 7 days: no germination. CYA, 37°C, 7 days: colony diameters 65-70 mm, plane or conspicuously sulcate, velutinous to slight floccose, margin submerged; mycelium white to pale reddish grey or greyish yellow to greyish orange (4-5B3-4); conidiogenesis sparse, greyish yellow to yellowish or-ange (4B4-7); exudate clear to greyish red (10-11C-D4-6); soluble pigment greyish red (7-8B4-6); reverse greyish ruby to dark ruby or dull dark Magenta (12D-F3-5, 13-14F4-8). Gymnothecia globose, subglobose or ellipsoidal, white, 198-357 × 159-254 μm, maturing in 2 weeks or more on MEA at 37°C; ascomata initials borne from coiled or contorted hyphal segments (crozier), swollen irregularly branched, twisted and developing into ascogenous hyphae; asci borne singly, subglobose to ellipsoidal or pyriform, 16.7-24.6 × 11.1-17.5 μm, evanescent, 8-spored; ascospores subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal or ellipsoidal, hyaline to yellow, 7.3-9.4 × 6.2-8.3 μm, with punctate surface overall, transverse section exhibiting radiate striations. Conidiophores and conidia: conidiophores on MEA borne from superficial or aerial mycelium; stipes septate or aseptate, smooth walled, 16.0-1190 × 2.4-8.0 μm; penicilli mostly biverticillate, often irregular or rarely monoverticillate with vesiculate apex, up to 9.5 μm wide; metulae in verticils of (2)3-8, smooth; 7.5-19.1 × 2.8-6.4 μm; phialides appressed, in verticils of 3-12, ampulliform or occasionally acerose, smooth, 7.1-19.8 × 2.4-5.0 μm, collula abruptly tapering, short sometimes long, with a length of 0.8-8.7 μm; conidia mostly ellipsoidal, rarely pyriform, 2.5-6.0 × 1.6-5.6 μm, smooth walled, borne in disordered chains.
