Description: Hypostroma originates from intercellular mycelium, small, numerous, scattered to aggregated, penetrating the epidermis, each forming a single ascoma. Ascomata subglobose, superficial, hypophyllous, rough, black, unilocular, sometimes bilocular, 150-175 μm high, 150-200 μm wide, opening by a narrow apical ostiole. Peridium 25-62 μm thick, 3-6-layered is composed of dark brown, more or less rounded, thick-walled pseudoparenchymatous cells up to 20 μm wide. Pseudoparaphyses (sensu Eriksson, 1981) filiform, colourless, septate, branched. Asci obclavate cylindrical, 8-spored, bitunicate, short-stalked, 50-65 × 12-15 μm, with a fissitunicate dehiscence. Ascospores smooth, 1-septate, not constricted at the septum, rounded at the ends, 15-18 × 4-5 μm.
