Description: Ascostromata superficial, pulvinate, black, multilocular, hypophyllous, 1-2.5 mm wide, 350-550 μm high. Hypostroma intraepidermal penetrating the mesophyll layers. The cells of the wall in the basal sterile region, those separating the locules and in the apical region are elongated, flattened, thin-walled, up to 2.5 μm thick and in the surrounding outer layers they are more or less globose, angular, dark brown, thick-walled, larger, up to 7.5 μm thick. The central foot that connects the external stroma to the hypostroma is 200-310 μm wide. Locules subglobose or ovoid, 200-250 μm high, 100-220 mm wide, open by a small central apical ostiole. Pseudoparaphyses filiform, colourless, branched, septate (sensu Eriksson, 1981). Asci clavate, short-stlaked, 8-spored, bitunicate, 70-80 × 12.5-15 μm. Ascospores colourless to very pale brown when mature, aseptate, globose, smooth, 8-10 × 5-6.5 μm.
