Description: Mycelium mat black, epiphyllous, with innate mycelium approximately forming an irregulsar or circular patch up to 3-6 mm across, with innate mycelium forming a subcuticular, crustose hypostroma which is composed of longitudinally arranged pseudoparenchymatous cells, hyaline in the lower part and dark brown in the upper region. There is no discolouration of the host cells around the mycelium. Ascostromata seated on superficial mycelium, subglobose, gregarious or partly adnate, rugose, brown, about 215-255 μm wide, covered with filamentous, thick-walled hyphae. The wall 26-50 μm thick is made up of 3-7 layers of dark brown pseudoparenchymatous cells. Asci bitunicate, broadly cylindrical, 115-156 × 20-27 μm, 4-spored. Pseudoparaphyses filiform, hyaline, branched, septate. Ascospores elliptical, septate in the middle, constricted at the septum, smooth, brown, 24-29 × 10-14 μm.
