Description: | Zygosporae flavae vel rufobrunneae, cum tunica hypharum intertextarum 5-17.5 μm diam, adpressarum ad spora, usque ad 40 μm crassa. Zygosporae singulae vel aggregatae in solo, vel on radicibus. Gametangia tenuiter tunicata, brunnea, ephemera, ad apices coeuntia, zygosporam super juncturam producentia. Zygosporae globosae, subglobosae, 140-200 μm diam (cum tunica hypharum). Tunicae sporarum stratis duobus, separabilibus: exteriore 1 m crasso, brunneo, reticulato et scrobiculato; interiore <1 m crasso, membranaceo. Typus: Wu-83120101 (TAI). Zygosporocarps borne singly in the soil and containing one zygosporangium. Zygosporangia brown or reddish brown, with a mantle of hyaline, interwoven hyhae appressed to the sporangiothecium, 5-17.5 μm diam, forming layers of hyphae up to 40 m thick. Gametangia thin-walled, brown and ephemeral, uniting at their tips with the zygosporangium forming above the point of union. Zygosporangia globose, or subglobose, 140-200 μm diam. (including hyphal mantle). Zygosporagnium consisting of two walls. Wall 1, a unit wall, reticulate and minutely pitted, 1 m thick; wall 2, a membranous wall, <1 μm thick. No-reaction to Melzer's reagent. Holotype: Wu-83120101(TAI).
Specimens: | Taiwan: Nantou, National Yu-san Park. HOLOTYPE: From the rhizosphere of native weed, Wu-83120101 (TAI). ISOTYPE: FLAS-F56216. PARATYPE: From the rhizosphere of Pieris taiwanensis Hayata, Wu-83120102 (TAI). |

Habitat: | Hypogeous. Spores were isolated from Tatachia Saddle area, in the National Yu-shan Park. The zygospores of Peridiospora undulata were isolated together with the spores of Acaulospora sp. (SM-83111701), and Sclerocystis rubiformis Gerd. & Trappe.

Note: | Etymology: Latin, reticulata (reticulate), refers to the spore ornamentation. The reticulate and minutely pitted outer spore wall is the major characteristic that segregates P. reticulata from P. tatachia. The latter produces a yellow brown zygosporangium with smooth outer wall.
