Description: Basidiocarp resupinate, effuse, adnate, ceraceous, 100-600 μm thick in section. Hymenial surface light buff to clay-yellow, no color changes in KOH, smooth, cracked; margin rather determinate, shortly filamentous, paler or white. Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae sim-ple-septate. Subiculum fairly thin, usually with fairly dense texture; hyphae horizontal lining the substratum, variously oriented elsewhere, colorless, 4-10 μm diam., with 0.5-1.5 μm thick walls. Hymenium distinctly thickening, with compact texture; hyphae mainly vertical, colorless, thin- or slightly thick-walled. Leptocystidia numerous, tapering towards apices, colorless, occasionally with one or two secondary septa, 25-60 × 3-7 μm, slightly thick-walled towards bases, occasionally slightly encrusted at apices. Basidia clavate, 18-25 × 4.5-6 μm, usually slightly thick-walled towards bases, 4-sterigmate. Basidiospores ellip-soid, adaxially flattened, smooth, thin-walled, 3.8-5.3 × 2.5-3 μm, IKI-, CB-.

Note: This species is comparable with Phanerochaete carnosa (Burt) Parmasto in having similar cystidia and basidiospores. Ecologically, the latter is a temperate species growing on gymnosperms. In addition, this species has a yellow hymenial surface which usually be-comes green in KOH. Moreover, P. carnosa has a thicker subiculum which is comparatively looser in texture, and has slightly longer basidiospores.
