Sorophores pale purple, sinuous, 0.9-5.6 (-10) mm in length, tapering from bases to tips, usually surrounded by basal disks, with supporters if prostrate, bases conical, 18.0-38.8 (55.4) μm in diam at a level 50μm above the bottom, tips capitate, 4.2-11.2 (-12.5) μm in diam at a level 50 μm below the tip. Sori pale purple to dark purple or black, globose, 60-400 μm in diam. Spores hyaline, oblong, usually 1.4-2.8 times longer than broad, mostly 5.5-9.9 × 2.2-4.4 μm, without polar granules. Note: | According to Hagiwara (1992), two forms of D. purpureum were recognized in Japan. One is named “temperate form”, which is characterized by large sorocarps (often exceeding 6 mm), purplish sori, and elliptical spores (2.1<L/W<3.0). Another form named “subtropical form” , which is characterized by medial sorocarps (not exceeding 6 mm), dark purple to black sori, and thicker spores (1.4<L/W<2.3). | |||
