 Description: Sorocarps solitary, usually unbranched, sometimes sparsely and irregularly branched, phototropic, sometimes prostrate. Sorophores colorless, sinuous, 0.5-7.0 (-10.5) mm in length, tapering from bases to tips, mostly one cell wide, consisting of a tier of cells in terminal part except for the tips, bases conical or round, 6.5-24.7 μm in diam at a level 50μm above the bottom, tips capitate compound, 3.3-10.5 μm in diam at a level 50 μm below the tip. Sori white, globose, 80-320 μm in diam. Spores hyaline, oblong, usually 1.4-2.0 times longer than broad, mostly 5.5-8.3 × 2.8-4.4 μm, without polar granules. Pseudoplasmodia, 1.0-2.5 mm in diam, centralized, migrating with sorophore formation.

 Note: According to Hagiwara (1989), D. brefeldianum is characterized by the capitate tips of sorophores. Its slender sorophore terminates suddenly in a mass of cells as if an arm is followed with a fist.
