Description: Ascomata more or less campanulate, becoming depressed in the centre at the apex, setose and hairy, superficial on a thin subiculum of dark brown, septate, branched hyphae, opening by an obscure small central ostiole which is lined on the inside by filiform, colourless periphyses, 375-500 (625) μm broad, 225-320 μm tall. The ostiole is either disoriented by the central depression which masks its view in vertical sections of the ascomata or often not seen in sections of old ascomata. Peridium 100-182 μm thick at the flanges, 37-40 μm thick at the base, and up to 75 μm thick at the apex is composed of pseudoparenchymatous cells forming a textura angularis. The cells lining the ascomatal cavity and towards the base are flattened, colourless, thin-walled and elongated. Hamathecium composed filiform, septate, colourless paraphyses and periphyses (sensu Eriksson, 1981). Asci cylindrical, thin-walled, unitunicate, 8-spored, short-stalked, 135-150 × 8.5-15 μm without any apical structures. Ascospores colourless, aseptate or usually 1-septate in the middle, not constricted, smooth, oblong, uniseriate in the ascus, 20-22.5 × 8.5-11 μm.
