Description: | Ascostromata stipitate, usually two, arising from sides of the neck of infected dipteran fly, 4.0-7.0 mm long, capitate, bearing a terminal fertile head. The fertile head flattened oblate globoid or flattened turbinate, orange red (8A6-7) to brownish yellow (5C7-8), becoming light brown (7D6-7) to brownish orange (6C-D8) in age, 0.7-1.7 mm wide, 0.8-1.2 mm thick, surface roughened, ridged, furrowed from the top view. Stipe cylindrical, 320-350 μm in width, immature, slightly widening towards the apex, clavate, light brown (6D4), in age becoming brown (6E7-8) to dark brown (6F7-8), consisting of compact longitudinal somewhat interwoven hyphae. Perithecia vertical, narrowly ovoid to obclavate, occasionally irregular, 500-920 × 160-210 μm, ostiolate, embedded in pseudoparenchymatous cortex, composed of loose or compact septate, hyaline hyphae, 2.6-7.9 μm wide, perithecial wall 18-30 μm wide. Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, up to 460 μm long, 4.8-5.6 μm wide, with a perforated refractive cap, 3.2-5.6 μm thick, 5.6-7.1 μm wide. Ascospores hyaline, filiform, multiseptate, finally breaking into one-celled partspores. Partspores cylindrical to fusiform, 5.6-18.4(-27.3) × 1.9 μm. Conidial state: Hymenostilbe dipterigena. | |||
