Description: Apothecia 0.25-0.4 mm diam., scattered to gregarious on the dead rachi and petioles of Cyatheaceae, often spreading over large areas, superficial, infundibuliform, compound, lobed, or with convoluted margins, covered with buff-yellow hairs capped with lumps of orange-red to garnet-red resinous-appearing matter, distinctly stipitate. Disc yellow-orange, conceled by hairs when dry. Stipe solitary or with as many as seven cups on a single stipe, similarly covered with buff-yellow hairs. Hairs up to 72 × 2.5-3.8 mm, light brown to orange-yellow, cylindric with hemispherical tips and slightly tapered bases, thick-walled, multiseptate, forming cells 8-22 mm long, roughened with granules. Ectal excipulum hyaline, composed of textura prismatica. Asci (76-)88-96 × (4-)6-8(-12) mm, clavate, J+, 8-spored. Ascospores (24-)27-39(-42) × 2.0-3.2 mm, fusiform with pointed tips, often biguttulate, non-septate, biseriate in the ascus. Paraphyses 1.3-2.0 mm, at the widest point, filiform, slender, often branched in the lower portion, hyaline, not extending beyond the asci in the hymenium.

Note: This species was previously reported from Taiwan by Wu (1995) under the name Dasyscyphus oncospermatis. It is distinguished from related species on tropical ferns by the branched stipe, convoluted disc margin and spores with pointed tips. Previously treated Dasyscyphus lanariceps [=Lachnum lanariceps (Cooke & Phillips) Spooner] as synonym of Dasyscyphus oncospermatis. Lachnum lanariceps can be distinquished from the present species on the basis of having simple rather than compound apothecia and shorter spores, (17-)18-28(-31) mm.
