Description: Apothecia 0.5-1 mm diam., on dead twigs of broad-leaved trees, scattered to crowded on bark, appearing as a tuft of white hairs when young, becoming cup-shaped at maturity, covered with white hairs, sessile or short stipitate, not blackened at the base, firmly inserted in substrate. Disc orange, obscured by hairs when young. Hairs up to 126 μm with tightly adhering granulate. Ectal excipulum of hyaline textura prismatica. Medullary excipulum of hyaline textura intricata. Asci (76-)84-104(-108) × 10-12 μm, clavate with tapered base, apex slightly conical, J+, 8-spored with spores clustered in upper half at maturity. Ascospores (28.4-)35-45(-47.3) × 1.6-3.2 μm, narrowly clavate, straight or evenly curved, but not flexuous, with blunt apex and tapered base, with widest point at about 1/3 back from apex, 3-septate, or more commonly 5-septate, hyaline, thin-walled, without conspicuous lipid bodies. Paraphyses narrow, clavate-filiform, straight, unbranched above the base, 1.5-2.5 μm at the widest point, 1-3-septate, hyaline, thin-walled, without conspicuous contents or adhering particles.

Note: This species is distinguished from similar lignicolous lachnums by its smaller spores and small, almost sessile apothecia densely covered with white hairs. The Taiwan sample has no distinct resinous material on the tips of the hairs and the ascospores are slightly smaller, but still within the range of that recorded by Haines and Dumont (1984). This species is less common than the other wood inhabiting lachnums described in Taiwan.
